The Ardea Pack is equal measures a hip pack and a bicycle handlebar bag. HOW-TO Handlebar Bag To set up your Ardea Pack as a handlebar bag, make sure that the waist strap is tucked securely behind the spacer mesh on the back of the Ardea Pack. Take a close look at the webbing straps attached to the top of the Ardea Pack. You’ll see that the Gatekeeper Buckle is inserted into a webbing slot, and that there’s a metal loop that closes the buckle to keep it in place. To open that metal loop, squeeze the top and bottom of the buckle together and the metal hook will pop open. Next, wrap the webbing straps around your bars. Tighten the webbing attachment straps real snug around your bars by opening the cam (the hinged part of the Gatekeeper Buckle that pinches the webbing and holds it in place) and adjusting the webbing. Tighten or loosen the webbing attachment straps as necessary, and close the cam firmly once you’ve found the perfect tension. Last but not least, on the bottom of the back panel, you’ll find a length of cord with a toggle attached to it. Wrap the cord around your stem or head tube and loop the cord round the toggle to hold the strap in place. Adjust the cord as needed to make sure the bag is as tight and stable as possible! Hip Pack Pull the waist straps out from behind the space mesh on the back of the Elwha Pack. You can adjust the waist belt from both sides of the belt.

Surly Racks are well-thought-out, durable, expedition-worthy racks that work with most panniers. While their racks aren't limited solely to heavy duty touring, that is what they were designed for. When you're out on the road, the best option is to never ever have anything ever go wrong ever. Right? That's never a guarantee though; so having something that you can repair if it does break can be pretty clutch. Thus, the main bodies of Surly's front and rear racks are made from tubular CroMoly steel with stainless hardware. This means you can probably find someone out there that can torch it back into one piece in the rare instance things go south. The Front Rack is height adjustable and provides either a low or high pannier mounting position, which can be handy depending on terrain. When the ground gets rough, keep your gear high and dry. When the path is smooth and easy, you can load things low and keep everything balanced and stable, with the platform above the wheel providing yet more space for more stuff. It's worth mentioning they've redesigned the Front Rack hardware to be simpler to attach and more compatible with things like disc calipers and fenders. Surly also made attachment plates specifically for their Uni-Crown forks for yet more fork compatibility. This simpler design has fewer moving parts and costs less to manufacture; ergo, costs less for you to purchase. Surly's front rack WILL work with disc brakes on the Troll, Ogre, and Disc Trucker frames. It may take a bit of work to get clearance around the front caliper since the many different calipers out there are many different shapes. The new attachment plates will limit any DIY ingenuity you might need, but if you need to throw a washer or three behind the lower left bolt where the plate attaches to the fork dropout, that's not a big deal. As part of Surly's ongoing effort to make this planet last a little longer, they recently started shipping their racks with a small, reusable Surly Tool Bag that houses the rack struts and hardware. This switch helps eliminate the use of some polybags, thereby minimizing excess waste. Plus, you get a free tool bag out of the deal.
