Midnight Special is a road plus bike designed to provide comfort and speed on those all-day rides that extend well beyond fresh pavement. Midnight Special shines on pot-holed, deteriorating pavement and the occasional long stretch of gravel. Its 650B road plus tires eat up road chatter and absorb all the bumps in the road like the champion it was designed to be. When it comes to road bikes, we just want to toss a few bananas into our pockets and see where the road takes us. We seek out varied surfaces on our rides and frequently go from pavement to gravel to worse pavement. Fargo is our original drop bar mountain bike. The continuous seattube means you do not have an area where a seatpost is inserted into the seattube and clamped. Such an area of overlapping tubes would effectively double the material and kill the compliance. - Tire clearance for modern road tires up to 33mm (tire labelling is unreliable. Always verify actual clearance) - Available in dedicated 2x and 1x versions for a super-clean look and 100% functionality - Proper fit is paramount for comfort. Our geometry is sportive (we still want to go fast) but with a realistic saddle-to-handlebar drop and reach. So many marketing claims about carbon. Yet the truth is quite simple: - Every bike company has access to the same carbon. Compared to industries like aviation, carbon volume for bikes is too small for custom or exclusive. So all those different names for proprietary carbon are just that, names. - What matters: high-modulus carbon is stiff but brittle, low modulus carbon is more flexible but tougher. You need stiff and tough, so the best layup is a blend and the ratio depends on what is most important in each area of the frame. - In some areas (main tubes for example), the blend has more high modulus (and even ultra-high modulus) carbon. Other areas (headtube for example) use more of the tough carbon. That’s how our frames are both light and durable. OPEN was the first to truly optimize a fork for flatmount brakes with its Smartmount connection: - Standard, the bike industry uses four bolts plus an adaptor to attach the brake caliper to the fork. This allows for flipping between 140mm and 160mm rotors. - However, SRAM and Shimano both always recommend 160mm for the front, so we remove the adaptor and two bolts to attach the caliper directly onto the fork for that rotor size. - This makes the setup lighter, stiffer, safer. (Check our Specifications for the correct bolt lengths for each setup.) - This design also cleans up the R-Turn fork legs and allows us to make a very light structure with very tunable stiffness and strength. Design is in the details: - Wire-Stays. Vertically thin chainstays and seatstays provide compliance, while their lateral width and layup ensure rock-solid propulsion. Truly the best of both worlds. - Ritchey Rail Clamp. Clean, simple, hassle-free, that’s why the Ritchey system is so popular. The MIN.D. comes standard with the side plates for round 7mm and 7x9.6mm oval rails. - Internal Routing. The MIN.D., internal routing is designed for all electronic groupsets, Shimano mechanical groups with FD cable stop and all 1x groups. Cockpit cables are left exposed for easy maintenance. - Thru-thread Dropouts. The lock bolt secures the hanger in the frame using the same threads that secure the thru axle on the other side. Simpler, lighter & optimized for the stiffest thru-axle: Syntace X-12. - Smartmount 160. The brake caliper attaches directly onto the frame, positioned for 160mm discs. Straggler is a bikepacking-inspired road/gravel bike mostly at home on pavement but ready for trail duty when called. Born on Gravel. Raised on Pavement Straggler is tuned for cross-over exploration on a wide variety of terrain conditions. It's a day-tripper and a weekender. It's a "rough road" road bike, a cyclocross bike with no pretense about racing, a utilitarian townie, a light-duty touring bike and an all-weather commuter. It's a steel gravel bicycle that thrives on the road. Think of it as a "mountain biker's road bike." If you only have room for one bike in your life, Straggler can (and should) be your one and only. Straggler's capabilities go well beyond asphalt. It also lends itself well to light touring setups. We're talking frame bags, seat bags, and "credit card touring" rather than full-blown touring. This is a frameset that can be ridden hard and put away wet. We use Tange tubing because it’s got a heritage of quality and a responsive feel. We know that the everyday cyclist needs a bike they can count on, day in and day out.
