The Exie USA is a World Cup-capable cross-country race bike that flat-out shreds. With a sub 2,000g frame weight and dw-link suspension, it offers a stunning combination of pedaling efficiency and downhill performance. This always surprises test riders. Great fun on-road and no limits off-road. Equally important is the handling. The WI.DE. retains its agility with anything from massive mountain tires to road tires. Trigonometry helps us a bit here, as the trail automatically grows together with the tire size, just like you want for tougher terrain. - With 650b gravel or 27.5" mountain bike tires up to 2.4”(61mm), rutted singletrack, slippery roots and rocks disappear. - With 700c gravel tires up to 46mm, even the toughest gravel roads are tackled at lightning speed - Assembled with 700c road tires (we recommend 35-40mm wide), you have the most comfortable road bike ever invented - The U.P.'s dropped right chainstay launched a whole category of bikes. The WI.DE. doubles up. The double-drop chainstays create a very efficient box-shape behind the BB. This increases stiffness, reduces weight and boosts tire clearance. - 1x cranks eliminate the inner ring and front derailleur that limit tire clearance. Most of our customers run a classic 1x setup with 12-sp or 13-sp cassette. But you can also go 2x using the Classified system: light, fast, very efficient and clean. - Every bike company has access to the same carbon. Compared to industries like aviation, carbon volume for bikes is too small for custom or exclusive. So all those different names for proprietary carbon are just that, names. - What matters: high-modulus carbon is stiff but brittle, low modulus carbon is more flexible but tougher. You need stiff and tough, so the best layup is a blend and the ratio depends on what is most important in each area of the frame. - In some areas (main tubes for example), the blend has more high modulus (and even ultra-high modulus) carbon. Other areas (headtube for example) use more of the tough carbon. That’s how our frames are both light and durable. - Wire-Stays: Vertically thin chainstays and seatstays provide compliance, while their lateral width and layup ensure rock-solid propulsion. Truly the best of both worlds. - Flat-Out Downtube: The downtube drives stiffness, connecting your steering center to your drivetrain. The road position lets you get out of town quickly (unlike a mountain bike). Space for big tires gives you grip on tougher terrain (unlike a road bike). It’s also very light, thanks to another OPEN innovation: Smartmount. Standard, the bike industry uses four bolts plus an adaptor to attach the brake caliper to the fork. This allows for flipping between 140mm and 160mm rotors. However, SRAM and Shimano both always recommend 160mm for the front, so we remove the adaptor and two bolts to attach the caliper directly onto the fork for that rotor size. This makes the setup lighter, stiffer, safer. (Check our Specifications for the correct bolt lengths for each setup.) This design also cleans up the U-Turn fork legs and allows us to make a very light structure with very tunable stiffness and strength. We use words like small, medi­um, and large to describe our siz­ing because it’s easy to under­stand, but our ultra low stan­dovers give you the abil­i­ty to size your frame based on reach and preference. We pio­neered the wide rim rev­o­lu­tion a few years ago and inspired a new crop of wider 2.4”?—?2.6” tires. When paired togeth­er, this com­bo can be run at ultra-low pres­sures that pro­duce elbow-drag­ging cor­ner­ing trac­tion with­out sac­ri­fic­ing speed.
