Steel hardtail mountain bikes are a staple in the midwest. We at the shop all grew up on them and love the way they have evolved particularly in the last few years. We set out to build the perfect modern hardtail that won't feel antiquated in 5 years time. Here's what we came up with. - A balanced geometry that doesn't slacken your headtube to the point of making your front wheel flop in the tight, windy singletrack, but it promises to gives you enough confidence when you're riding somewhere a bit rockier and steeper, say up in Duluth or Marquette. - A sufficiently tight rear-center wheelbase to make the bike nimble but not comically "tukt." We do like a stable rear end for those longer days after all. - A Steel frame that doesn't feel like a tank. - Wireless shifting? yes please! The ALLROAD is a legitimate road racing machine. Put 25c tires on, and no watt goes wasted. It’s plenty light for epic climbs, it’s designed to deliver beefy stiffness under power, yet it has a gentle ease on chip seal. But put 35c tires on it and you’ll discover its alter ego -- a ripping-fast gravel bike easily capable of managing dirt hardpack and moderate rock. The ALLROAD is our Swiss Army Knife of bikes. Again and again we marvel at how dynamic it is at balancing road agility with off-road stability. A question we’re asked everyday is “ALLROAD or ABLE?” Both bikes offer heaps of versatility, but each has different leanings. If you’re looking for a bike capable of navigating steep, rock-intensive terrain -- including chunky gravel -- then you’ll want to choose the ABLE. But if your daily dirt is perhaps a bit less-rugged, such as dirt county roads and marble-like gravel, then the ALLROAD is unquestionably the best choice. Now that we made the frames leverage rate progressive enough for a coil we had to find a coil shock that could handle the increased stress of being driven off of a clevis. The DVO JadeX is up to the challenge so the Ripmo AF comes with custom tuned DVO suspension. Ibis helped pioneer the wide rim revolution, which inspired the new crop of wider 2.4”?—?2.6” tires. When paired together, this combo can be run at ultra low pressures which results in elbow-dragging cornering traction without sacrificing straight line speed. We use words like small, medium, and large to describe our sizing because it’s easy to understand, but our ultra low standovers give you the ability to size your frame based on reach and preference. What’s better than a dropper post? A longer one. Our frames are designed to accommodate the longest dropper posts possible. Riders over 5’8 (or 173cm) can easily run a 185mm dropper post, while folks between 5’ and 5’8 (152cm?—?172cm) can use a post 125mm or longer depending on inseam length. We stand behind our products. The frame is constructed of high-modulus carbon fiber, which offers improved stiffness, better vibration damping, excellent durability, and weight savings compared to other frame materials. Mukluk’s geometry works extremely well in all conditions, whether it be riding groomed singletrack at your local trail, exploring a beach coastline, or embarking across the wild frozen expanses of Alaska. At its core, we use the shortest chainstay possible with a headtube angle and fork offset that place the rider’s center of gravity further over the rear wheel. This location and combination of front and rear center is key to getting a fat bike that is stable, steers well in loose conditions, and feels nimble and agile despite the massive wheels and tires. A low bottom bracket is also key to keep the rider’s center of gravity low and to make dabbing, dismounting, and remounting easier.
