Details

Orca isn’t just light. It is 6.7kg of climbing technology designed to change how you reach the top.

The feeling of a bike this light and efficient is unbeatable, and this instant acceleration, vibration absorption and responsive handling come from a frame which knows where it needs to be light and where it needs to be stiff. Welcome the ultimate climbing machine!

How We Made It

In professional cycling, partnerships matter and the right combination can distinguish a good team from a great one, turning near misses into podium finishes. See the first steps of how Orbea and Lotto Dstny joined forces in the latest video.

Dominate the Climbs

Achieving Orca´s light weight required many marginal gains, focusing on the details and using the best materials across the range. Considering the bike as a package means working with component and wheel designers right from the start to optimize stiffness and weight.

The most efficient Aero bikes can never be truly lightweight and in the same way the lightest bikes can never be super aero. Trying to make a tool do many different jobs often results in something that isn’t good at anything.

When the gradient of the climb means that your speed drops below around 15kmph, gravity starts to affect your ride more than air resistance. The gradient at which this occurs depends on each rider. Here a lightweight bike offers clear advantages.

Rigid in all the Right Places

But having the lightest bike is worth nothing if it isn’t stiff and efficient. When we designed Orca, we started with a target rigidity to ensure that even the strongest climbers could be sure of efficient power transmission. Then we designed Orca to be as light as possible without compromising that number.

It is possible to make very light bikes; however, if you lose efficiency due to a lack of rigidity, then it makes no sense. Size Tuned Stiffness

Powerspine

The lower spine of the frame handles the large majority of torsional and lateral loads. The headtube, downtube and chainstays resist twisting and transmit power to the rear wheel.

Instant Response

The feel of a lightweight bike is unmistakable, that instant response and the feeling of acceleration on every pedal stroke. The lack of inertia means an agile, responsive ride as you carve through the corners and accelerate out the other side.

Compliant but Efficient

Slim, round frame profiles offer more compliance, and the lack of vibration on less-than-perfect roads adds to the effortless feeling of riding Orca. Of course, we need to maintain pedalling efficiency, and their Powerspine maximises rigidity and resists pedalling forces.

Versatile Tire Clearance

With clearance for 32c tires, Orca acknowledges that speed can also be comfortable. Modern road riders have discovered the advantages of bigger tires on rougher surfaces.

And What About Aero?

Designing a lightweight bike means that when we have to decide between weight and aero, we choose the lightest solution. That doesn’t mean that Orca isn’t efficient on the flat, and features such as the clean junctions, hidden seat clamp, internal cables, and efficient geometry help it slip through the air.

Seatpost Clamp

The new seat post clamp adds a touch of style. At the same time it is lighter than ever and the minimalist design improves aerodynamics.

Fork

And although the fork is designed to minimise weight, the clever shape helps to reduce drag at the same time.

Premium Ingredients

ORCA is equipped with the best components, focused on weight and ergonomics. For riders looking to tune the performance you can add aerodynamics via our MyO configurator.

OC Components

OC Components offer better integration than ever before. Choose aero handlebars or maximise comfort with high rise bars.

OQUO Wheels

Orca is available with OQUO´s Road Performance wheels, with three different profiles 35mm, 45mm and 57mm to suit every rider.
