We partnered with the legendary folks over at S&M Bikes to create a more stylish and affordable Made in the USA crossbar handlebar. This one is an absolute dream come true as we've been huge fans of S&M, and their American Made ethos, ever since our formative years spent prowling the local streets on a BMX bike. Partnering with them is a real honor. These are perfect for your cruiser, MTB, or country bike. They offer a heads up riding position and plenty of leverage for control. The finish is a powder coat in Transparent Gold, Transparent Black, or Clear. They look rad and show off the heat marks from the fabrication process. As clear coats are porous your bars will patina underneath the powder coat. Be aware. "Made in USA" and "Wilde Bicycle Co." are stamped into the steel, but the Wilde logo is just a decal on top of the clear coat that you'll apply yourself. The clamp diameter is 22.2 so you will need shims if you're planning on using a 25.4, 26.0 or 31.8 clamp stem. We recommend utilizing a stem with at least four bolts in the faceplate, you can generate a lot of leverage with these and anything less risks the bars rotating. The Jemmy Bar was designed with a few goals in mind: First, we wanted a flat bar geared more toward everyday riding than the Oyster Bar, that didn't sacrifice too much control. Second, we wanted plenty of room between the stem and outer grip section of the bar for straps, accessories, alternate hand positions, you name it. Finally we wanted it to look & feel at home on most ATB's of the 80's and 90's (we recommend a shorter, sub 90mm stem if this is your bike) as well as modern tourers designed around shorter stems and wider bars. With that in mind, the Jemmy Bar was born. It's been tested on everything from Karla & Daniel's touring bikes to our own commuters here in the PNW - If you want a truly versatile bar that is equally at home on a fat tired town bike as it is a modern tourer, This one's for you! The Jemmy bar is: - Full 4130 steel tubing, 22.2mm stem clamp diameter (add shims here if needed). - 850mm wide (uncut), 27 degrees of backsweep, 35mm rise, and 6 degrees of upsweep. - 595g, uncut - Able to be cut to about 740mm while retaining a 185mm grip area. - Made by us in Port Townsend, WA and powder coated by our friends at Stunt Doubles Color. - Not for 'downhill' use. All Jones H-Bars use a 31.8mm stem clamp diameter, 22.2mm clamp size for controls (standard mountain bike style). All my bars are H-bars. H-bar for Handle-Bar. They have the 45 degrees of sweep, the 0.5" vertical offset, and a multitude of hand-positions. But could I offer more, with less? Yes. Back to basics, back to the beginning, with a twist. Well, with a bend....the Bend H-Bar. The original concept, the 45 degrees of sweep but with the bend, where it is, ensures shifters and levers are a simple fit and the one piece butted aluminium construction delivers a bar 170g lighter than a Loop. Less hand position options, less stuff-mounting space, marginally less stiff but all you might ever need in an H-Bar. No more, no less. The Jones Bend H-Bar. The bikes I ride for long distances or at night have the Loop H-Bars so I have more hand positions and mounting points. The Bend H-Bar is nice for bikes that don't need things attached to the front of the bar (light, GPS, etc.) or an aero position. Ergonomics: With an aggressive sitting position and a handlebar width from 740mm and under 9° backsweep, the wrists are always overstretched. SQlab currently has the monopoly for aggressive MTB handlebars. Damping: The 311 FL-X has been developed with regard to flex behavior. In an elaborate study, we were able to prove that almost all high-quality handlebars have damping characteristics between 0% and 15%, depending on the intensity. The 311 FL-X is between 20% and 30%. The higher flex has no disadvantages in steering precision. The steering forces are clearly below the vertical forces. Thomson's Carbon MTB bars are made with three different fiber types for strength, durability and long times in the saddle. Thomson's MTB Carbon Cross Country Handlebar is a flat bar with an off center clamp area allowing a flat riding position and reversible for a 5mm drop. It also has 8° of backsweep for comfort and 730mm in width for plenty of leverage.
